Jadrolinija's route 431 fares apply from 1 January to 31 December 2026, cost the same in each direction and include port dues and VAT. Children under 1 travel free without a ticket and children aged 1 to 3 free with a ticket. Pets and hand luggage up to 20 kg are not charged. Car drivers are not on the list of people carried free, so everyone in a car pays the passenger fare on top of the vehicle fare. Island fares require a Croatian island ID card (otočna iskaznica). All fares in euros (EUR).
Car ferries to Preko do not leave from Zadar's old town. Jadrolinija's route 431 starts at the Gaženica ferry port, a separate harbour on the southern side of the city, so anyone arriving with a rental car should head for Gaženica rather than the old town waterfront. The crossing to Preko on the island of Ugljan takes 25 minutes according to the operator; a handful of daily sailings also call at the islet of Ošljak, which stretches the trip to 30 minutes.
The 2026 timetable has two periods. The high-season table (1 June to 30 September) runs 18 sailings each way, including a 01:00 departure from Gaženica and a 00:30 from Preko. From Thursday 1 October until 31 December the low-season table applies: 17 sailings each way from Monday to Saturday, the first leaving Gaženica at 05:00 and the last at 23:00. On Sundays and public holidays four sailings each way are dropped, and on 25 and 26 December three more. 18 November, Remembrance Day, is a Wednesday this year and follows the Sunday pattern.
An adult foot passenger pays EUR 3.80 one way and a child aged 3 to 12 pays EUR 1.60; a car up to 5 m long and 2 m high costs EUR 17.30. Fares are the same in both directions and include port dues and VAT. Lower island fares apply only to holders of a Croatian island ID card. Jadrolinija says a ticket for this route is valid for any sailing on the date printed on it, so missing a boat does not cost you a second ticket. Hand luggage up to 20 kg travels free.
The Gaženica ticket office (Gaženička cesta 28c) opens at 04:30 Monday to Saturday and at 06:00 on Sundays and holidays, closing at 23:00. If you are travelling without a vehicle and staying in the old town, the passenger-only boat on route 409 leaves from the city harbour on the peninsula and goes straight to Preko. It has its own timetable and fares, which are not shown on this page.
- Get to the port in good time: on car ferries vehicle boarding closes before departure, and queues build in summer.
- Check the operator's notices on the day — bora and jugo winds and breakdowns change or cancel sailings.
- Buy your ticket in advance where the operator allows it; vehicle space is limited on some routes.
